When it comes to saving the environment, every little step counts. If you want to go green, an earth friendly shopping list is a great step in the right direction. Purchasing organic products is primarily the best thing you can do for the environment and your family. This simple shopping list is just a few ways you can buy eco-friendly foods.

- Organic produce- the environmental benefits of buying organic produce are huge and when you purchase these products you will support the environment, farmers and yourself. There are many organic vegetables and fruits you can purchase, if you’re not sure about it, ask the salesperson.

- Organic animal products- purchasing these products will help your health and the environment. Certain meats have more pesticides than others due to the diet the animals are fed. Buy animal products from a local, sustainable and organic farm. This way you know that the animals aren’t unnecessarily hurt and the meat will be fresh.

- Reusable shopping bags- opt for green earth-friendly bags that you can reuse. Don’t use paper or plastic bags and remember to bring your canvas bags when you go shopping. Canvas can hold more and are less likely to break, and will save from all the left over plastic that will end up in landfill.

- Non-toxic Cleaning Products- most of the cleaning products on the shelves contaminate our water and air, and also contain chemicals harmful to our health. Try and purchase green cleaning products that are safe for us, as well as our environment. Try and make your own cleaning products from natural ingredients like backing soda, white vinegar, alcohol and lemon.

- Bio-Bags-these bags are biodegradable bags that break down naturally and quickly when they are exposed to nature and micro-organisms. These green bags will save money and will keep your fruits and vegetables fresh for longer.

- Biodegradable Doggy/Litter Bags- part of being a responsible owner is to clean up after your pet when you’re outside your property. Putting your dogs mess inside a biodegradable bag will work well as they will both decay. These bags are earth friendly as they decay into CO2, water and humic matter. You can throw the waste bag into yoru compost pile and it will decompose naturally.

- GDiapers- gDiapers are a new alternative to disposable and cloth nappies. The diapers consist of flushable inserts that are biodegradable and made from natural fibre.

- Hemp Clothing and Linens- hemp products are naturally hypo-allergenic so those that suffer from allergies can be at ease. Clothing and linen made from hemp are far more durable, keep warm in the winter and cool in summer and are eco-friendly.

- Bamboo Kitchen Products- Bamboo is a renewable plant and it is a fast growing wood that you can use for kitchenware. Bamboo plates and flatware are naturally beautiful and durable.

- Natural Personal Care Products- we all need personal products to care for our bodies but by using organic products we can avoid exposure to ourselves and the environment from harsh chemicals. Additives, preservatives and chemicals added to deodorants and cosmetics can be harmful to your skin and the environment. Make sure you clean with natural body products that are free from added scents and chemicals.
